Each course listed below is designed to meet all applicable regulatory training requirements for the identified participants.  Testing is included in all courses and is appropriate in difficulty to the training level and objectives.  The hours shown are for the stand-alone course as presented to a general audience.  Many of the courses, however, may be completed in fewer hours if presented in conjunction with other courses or if presented to participants with a more limited range of needs and responsibilities.  The catalog prices shown are also for the stand-alone course offered to a general audience.  Pricing to customers wishing to contract for private training may be negotiated based on such factors as cost to deliver the training to a specific location, number of participants, training time, and materials provided.  When arranging for private training is best to contact us well in advance.  We will, however, make every effort to respond to urgent needs as our schedule allows.

Hazardous Materials General Awareness Transportation Training:  This course is intended for the “HazMat employee,” as defined by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) in 49 CFR, whose responsibilities are limited to verification rather than determination of regulatory requirements.  Such employees typically verify, through the use of the Hazardous Materials Table and other tools, that packages are properly marked and labeled, that shipping papers are completed correctly, and that packages are suitably loaded and secured.  The course meets the DOT training and testing requirements as outlined in 49 CFR 172.700 for General Awareness, Function-Specific, and Safety training.  The length of the course ranges from two to eight hours depending on the needs and responsibilities of the participants.

Basic Hazardous Materials Transportation Training:  This course offers a detailed introduction to the hazardous materials transportation regulations in 49 CFR.  It is intended for HazMat employees who need a comprehensive understanding of the decision-making process required for hazardous material identification and classification, determination of proper packaging, fulfillment of communication requirements, and provision for appropriate transportation controls.  Course length ranges from twelve to twenty hours and depends on the variety of hazardous materials for which the participants are responsible and class size.

Basic Hazardous Waste Transportation Training:  This course provides waste identification information as well as familiarization with the additional and unique DOT requirements for the transport of hazardous wastes.  It is designed as a follow-on to the Basic Hazardous Materials Transportation Training course and is four hours in length.

Basic Radioactive Materials Transportation Training:  The specific DOT requirements for shipping Class 7 (radioactive) materials are detailed in this course.  It is intended for those who will make decisions concerning radioactive material identification, proper shipping name selection, packaging, determination of full communication requirements, and transportation controls.  The course may be presented as a follow-on to the Basic Hazardous Materials Transportation Training course or as stand-alone training and ranges from eight to sixteen hours in length.

Transport Requirements for Shipments of Explosives Training:    A detailed, in-depth, systematic approach to shipping class 1 explosives in full compliance with 49 CFR. is provided by this course.  Participants complete numerous practical exercises covering the full range of decision-making steps required to prepare explosives shipments according to DOT regulations. This training includes those transport requirements unique to shipping class 1 explosives.  First-time participants should have training comparable to the Basic Hazardous Materials Transportation Training course or equivalent experience.

General Packaging Requirements for Hazardous Materials:  This course identifies packaging selection requirements as well as the specifications for packages containing hazardous materials, hazardous wastes and radioactive material.  The course ranges from four to sixteen hours in length depending on the types of hazardous materials for which the participants are responsible.

Highway Route Controlled Quantity Training for Drivers:  This four-hour course meets the training requirements of 49 CFR 397.101 for drivers transporting highway route controlled quantities of Class 7 (radioactive) materials.

Advanced Hazardous Materials Shipper Certification Training:    A detailed, in-depth, systematic approach to shipping any hazardous material (other than Class 7) in full compliance with 49 CFR.   Participants complete numerous practical exercises covering the full range of decision-making steps required to prepare shipments according to DOT regulations.  This is a sixteen hour course for first-time participants and can be offered as an eight-hour course for those who need recertification.  First-time participants should have training comparable to the Basic Hazardous Materials Transportation Training course or equivalent experience.  A 49 CFR is provided with this course.

Advanced Hazardous Waste Shipper Certification Training:  This course begins with waste identification according to 40 CFR Part 261 and then presents a systematic approach for shipping hazardous wastes in full compliance with 40 and 49 CFR.  It ranges from 16 to 24 hours in length and provides “cradle to grave” information pertaining to the shipping of hazardous wastes.  First-time participants should have training comparable to the Basic Hazardous Waste Transportation Training course or equivalent experience.

Advanced Radioactive Material Shipper Certification Training:  Participants are provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to ship Class 7 (radioactive) materials in activity amounts ranging from limited quantity to highway route controlled quantity.  Participants complete numerous practical exercises preparing shipments in full compliance with 49 CFR using the logical, systematic approach presented in this course.  The course is 16 to 24 hours in length.  First-time participants should have training comparable to the Basic Radioactive Material Transportation Training course or equivalent experience.

Advanced Mixed Waste Shipper Certification Training:  This course is intended for those whose responsibilities include shipping wastes containing both radioactive and chemical hazards.  Topics addressed include waste identification, material classification and those communication requirements that are particular to the transport of mixed wastes.  Participants learn the unique requirements for shipping mixed wastes according to 10, 40 and 49 CFR.  They are also made aware of the shortcomings of these regulations in addressing mixed waste shipping and the contradictions that may arise when shipping mixed waste as opposed to hazardous or low-level radioactive wastes alone.  The course is 24 to 32 hours in length and first-time participants should have training comparable to the Basic Hazardous Material, Hazardous Waste, and Radioactive Material Transportation Training courses or equivalent experience.

IATA Dangerous Goods Shipper Certification Training: Shipping in accordance with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations is presented in this course which is intended for those who ship dangerous goods (hazardous materials) by air. Requirements for shipping to, from and within the USA are covered along with those DOT regulations that must also be incorporated. The standard presentation is 16 hours in length but the course can be adapted to the needs of the participants and could range from eight to 28 hours depending on the variety and types of dangerous goods shipped.  Catalog price is $425 without IATA regulations or $700 with IATA regulations provided.

IATA Radioactive Materials Shipper Certification Training: Shipping in accordance with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations is presented in this course which is intended for those who ship radioactive materials by air. Requirements for shipping to, from and within the USA are covered along with those DOT regulations that must also be incorporated. IMDG Dangerous Goods Shipper Certification Training:  Shipping in accordance with the IMDG Code is presented in this course which is intended for those who ship dangerous goods (hazardous materials) by water.  The standard presentation is 24 hours in length but the course can be adapted to the needs of the participants and could range from eight to 28 hours depending on the variety and types of dangerous goods shipped.
